- ➤ On October 1, a Moorhead food shelf switched its TEFAP supplier from the Great Plains Food Bank to North Country Food Bank in East Grand Forks—A Place For Hope Executive Director Darrell Vasvick said the change aligns state food aid resources more equitably; the food shelf will still partner with Great Plains Food Bank for purchased, donated and food rescue items. - ➤ Fargo residents enjoy a fresh twist on a beloved charity event as college student Addie Loerzel launches Sunshine and Sprinkles, changing her cupcake sales into an indoor dance and karaoke party with a DJ and favorite fictional characters to help sick kids through the Sunshine Foundation. She and her mom Marisa Bengtson explained their vision on the Morning Show—highlighting a growing effort to support the community. KVRR

- ➤ Local hard rock tribute group Pastime Activity will perform a Halloween tribute to System of a Down with two sets on October 31 at TAK Music Venue — the show starts at 7:00 p.m. central time and is open to all ages. Fargo Underground
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota’s state superintendent, was confirmed by the Senate to serve as assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education in the Department of Education — her official swearing in is delayed due to a government shutdown while Gov. Kelly Armstrong appoints her successor to finish her term. KVRR
- ➤ NDSU will celebrate its 10th anniversary of Giving Day with a two-day online campaign Oct. 14—15, and donations will support scholarships, research and programs that directly benefit students and boost outreach. University departments will host Spotlight Hours on social media to share impact stories and campus priorities. NDSU

- ➤ State residents will not get federal disaster relief for damage from June storms until the government shutdown ends—FEMA approved assistance for repairs and infrastructure replacement and the Enderlin tornado caused over 11.5 million dollars in damage. Officials are preparing reimbursement requests expecting 16 million dollars in relief and 2.5 million in state funds while a second request for August storm damage remains under federal review. - ➤ The U.S. Senate confirmed Nick Chase as U.S. Attorney for North Dakota—recommended by Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer. He served 20 years in the U.S. Attorney’s office and was once a district court judge appointed by Governor Doug Burgum. KVRR
- ➤ State residents will not receive federal disaster relief for June storm damage until the government shutdown ends even though FEMA approved funds for repairs and replacement. - ➤ On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate confirmed two North Dakotans; Kirsten Baesler, who has served as Superintendent of Public Instruction since 2013, was named Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education and Nicholas Chase, a former district judge with a long career in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, was confirmed as U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota—both appointments mark key federal roles for our state. - ➤ The North Dakota State University football team has agreed to a home-and-home series with Stony Brook. They will travel to LaValle Stadium on Long Island to face the Seawolves on Saturday, September 16, 2028 and will host Stony Brook at the Fargodome on August 31, 2030—adding to their future schedule with games against Incarnate Word, UC Davis and an away game in Eugene against Oregon in Week 2.
