- ➤ On October 1, a Moorhead food shelf switched its TEFAP supplier from the Great Plains Food Bank to North Country Food Bank in East Grand Forks—A Place For Hope Executive Director Darrell Vasvick said the change aligns state food aid resources more equitably; the food shelf will still partner with Great Plains Food Bank for purchased, donated and food rescue items. - ➤ Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota’s state superintendent, was confirmed by the Senate to serve as assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education in the Department of Education — her official swearing in is delayed due to a government shutdown while Gov. Kelly Armstrong appoints her successor to finish her term. KVRR
- ➤ NDSU will celebrate its 10th anniversary of Giving Day with a two-day online campaign Oct. 14—15, and donations will support scholarships, research and programs that directly benefit students and boost outreach. University departments will host Spotlight Hours on social media to share impact stories and campus priorities. NDSU

- ➤ State residents will not get federal disaster relief for damage from June storms until the government shutdown ends—FEMA approved assistance for repairs and infrastructure replacement and the Enderlin tornado caused over 11.5 million dollars in damage. Officials are preparing reimbursement requests expecting 16 million dollars in relief and 2.5 million in state funds while a second request for August storm damage remains under federal review. - ➤ The U.S. Senate confirmed Nick Chase as U.S. Attorney for North Dakota—recommended by Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer. He served 20 years in the U.S. Attorney’s office and was once a district court judge appointed by Governor Doug Burgum. KVRR
