GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Dakotans will vote on a constitutional amendment in 2026 that would allow lawmakers to serve a four-term limit in either chamber, following the House approval of Senate Concurrent Resolution 4008 on April 4 (this change would remove current restrictions separating house and senate terms). - ➤ The Senate passed a property tax bill on April 3rd that cuts the primary residence credit from $1,450 to $1,250 and limits the credit to 75% of a property owner’s tax bill. Governor Armstrong supports the original bill and will work with lawmakers in a conference committee if the House does not accept the changes. KVRR
- ➤ The North Dakota House defeated a strict prison sentencing bill promoted by Attorney General Drew Wrigley after more than 90 minutes of debate on March 24. The proposal would have required inmates to serve most of their sentences behind bars before they could qualify for early release—lawmakers said the measure would worsen prison overcrowding. KVRR
