Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 5th of April.
Good morning, Fargo.
The Fargo-Moorhead community is invited to NDSU’s Possibility Showcase, hosted by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business, which will highlight student innovation and entrepreneurship.
The event will take place Tuesday, April 15 in the Oceti Sakowin Ballroom at the NDSU Memorial Union starting at 4:30 p.m. (a social hour with hors d'oeuvres will lead into keynote speeches and student presentations).
North Dakotans will vote on a constitutional amendment in 2026 that would allow lawmakers to serve a four-term limit in either chamber, following the House approval of Senate Concurrent Resolution 4008 on April 4 (this change would remove current restrictions separating house and senate terms). The Secretary of State will sign the resolution and put the proposal on the general election ballot (voters will decide if lawmakers can propose changes to term limits).
The Senate passed a property tax bill on April 3rd that cuts the primary residence credit from $1,450 to $1,250 and limits the credit to 75% of a property owner’s tax bill.
Governor Armstrong supports the original bill and will work with lawmakers in a conference committee if the House does not accept the changes.
The North Dakota House defeated a strict prison sentencing bill promoted by Attorney General Drew Wrigley after more than 90 minutes of debate on March 24.
The proposal would have required inmates to serve most of their sentences behind bars before they could qualify for early release—lawmakers said the measure would worsen prison overcrowding.
Essentia Health announced a leadership change at West Market when Dr Devendranath "Dev" Reddy Mannuru was named chief medical officer, replacing Dr Richard Vetter who served for six years.
Mannuru moved to Fargo in 2013 and has held roles at Sanford Health and the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Dr Stefanie Geffroh continues as West Market President after serving in an interim role since August 2024.
