  • Aldevron will lay off 7 percent of its workforce, with most cuts at its Fargo headquarters—a measure aimed at aligning operations with evolving biotech needs and supporting affected employees during the transition.  KVRR

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Fargo Public Library is celebrating Jane Austen’s 250th birthday Saturday at the Dr. James Carlson library with tea-tasting, trivia, and Regency-era past-times. Librarian Lori West discussed Austen’s lasting appeal on the Morning Show (highlighting her wit and insight) earlier today.  KVRR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NDSU will hold its fall commencement ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 19 at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex. Nearly 625 candidates and 963 eligible graduates will be honored at two events—one at 2 p.m. with Wendi Wheeler and another at 5 p.m. with Josi Solsaa.  NDSU
  • North Dakota lawmakers are evaluating a free school meals proposal that may appear on next year’s ballot; during a meeting (Dec. 10), food service director Lynelle Johnson estimated costs near $134 million for 2027-29 with potential increases of $6 to $7 million every two years.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fargo VA Health Care System housed 177 homeless veterans in fiscal year 2025 as part of a nationwide effort that provided permanent housing for nearly 52,000 veterans. Director Brent Pharis said the work is life-changing and that efforts will continue.  WDAY Radio

  • Plans for a 262-unit downtown complex are on hold after the Cass County Commission and school board voted to forego a 15-year tax incentive program; accordingly, The Annex Group withdrew its application and canceled public hearings set for Dec. 22.  AM 1100 The Flag
