COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Fargo's winter warming operation started on Nov. 24th and each night nearly 50 adults have used it for a warm place when shelters are full. The City of Fargo and Fargo Cass Public Health will move the service to a new spot at 2001 1st Avenue North—transition dates have not been set. KVRR
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Harry’s Steakhouse opened its second location in West Fargo last week—replicating the 1940s style of its Grand Forks restaurant that opened in 2021—and the new venue offers both reservations and limited walk-in seating as general manager Matt Walkowiak advised. KVRR
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ NDSU professor John Cox received a prestigious publication grant from the Serbian Ministry of Culture for his translation of 'The Children of Neverville'—his fourth such award that shows the novel's significance in Serbia. He said his work will bring the book's social themes and quality to English readers and enhance NDSU's international reach. NDSU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ NDSU will host Jeremy Straub (associate professor of computer science) for a public talk on the regulation of artificial intelligence on Friday, Dec. 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. The event will include a 40-minute presentation with audience questions followed by refreshments in the Challey School of Music Atrium. - ➤ NDSU is waiving application fees for all non-degree graduate applicants until Dec. 15 – letting anyone with a bachelor’s degree enroll in graduate-level courses without paying an upfront fee; the fee is removed automatically within one to two days once the application is started. NDSU
- ➤ Fargo petition organizer Robin Nelson said polls show 80-percent support for a measure that would provide free school meals to all public school students and aims to collect 40,000 signatures to put the issue on the November 2026 ballot. The proposed measure, which will use tax funds and legacy earnings if needed, would be implemented in the 2027-28 school year and will not affect federal funding. AM 1100 The Flag

- ➤ NDSU assistant professor Syeed Iskander’s microplastics study is featured in Time magazine, showing that plastic cutting boards leave tiny particles on carrots after chopping.
