COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A winter storm caused power outages Tuesday afternoon when iced lines in trees made customers lose power, and all accounts were restored within four hours. Cass County Electric warned that high winds may cause brief service interruptions until conditions improve — the issue is entirely weather-driven.  WDAY Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fargo Theatre has been awarded a $500,000 Historic Theater Restoration Matching Grant from North Dakota’s 2025 Tourism and Community Enhancement Grants to restore its historic building that houses the famous 'Mighty Wurlitzer' theatre pipe organ (built in 1926 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places).  KVRR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fargo School Board unanimously selected Horace Mann as the name for the new northside elementary school during Tuesday night's meeting—one of five finalists chosen from an initial 437 names. The school will open in the fall.  WDAY Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Advocacy group Together For School Meals plans to submit language for a ballot petition that would give free breakfast and lunch to all public school and participating private and tribal school students, relying on 100% federal reimbursement. The measure needs 31,164 signatures and if approved, will appear on the November 2026 ballot with free meals starting in the 2027-28 school year — polling shows strong support from North Dakotans.  KVRR
  • The state board will choose an interim president at Valley City State next Thursday since Alan LaFave will leave at the end of the year to lead Northern State University—his alma mater. D.J. Campbell and Erica Buchholz are co-chairing the search for a permanent replacement.  WDAY Radio
  • North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind warns that drivers not adjusting for winter weather may be ticketed for careless or reckless behavior if they speed or weave in snowy conditions. HEALTH NEWS

  • An eighth grader from Fargo collapsed during a basketball game at Discovery Middle School on November 21 and died after being taken to Sanford Medical Center — she had no known health issues. An autopsy is pending at UND and her funeral is set for December 1 at Northview Church.  WDAY Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tim Polasek signed a seven-year contract extension with NDSU—keeping him as head coach through the 2033 season—which includes a significant raise and more funding for staff and program resources, as confirmed Tuesday by Athletic Director Matt Larsen.
