  • Taco John’s is returning to Fargo as it opens five new restaurants. Permits have been filed for a site on 26th Avenue—while a new building on University Drive South will open with the first by the end of this year and the second by early 2026.  WDAY Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hector International Airport is showcasing local artist Jeffrey J. Anderson’s pastel drawings of rural life based on photos along Highway 81 between Fargo and Grand Forks, and the art will be on display for four months—marking the eighth year of the airport’s art program.  KVRR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Dakota is launching a big project to get more oil from the Bakken Shale with $45 million in state funds and extra investments from the legislature and industry—this plan aims to recover more oil and boost the state’s economy for decades.  AM 1100 The Flag

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Moorhead High School and West Fargo’s Sheyenne High School have earned the 2024-2025 Leading Chapter Awards from the National Speech & Debate Association for outstanding student participation in speech and debate—Moorhead is one of three winners in Minnesota while Sheyenne is the only honor in North Dakota.  KVRR
  • At NDSU, the College of Engineering named associate professor Yechun Wang as the 2025 Excellence in Teaching Award winner, assistant professor Jessica Vold as the Early Career Excellence in Teaching Award recipient, and doctoral student Xiaoou Hu as Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year for their work in the classroom. They will be honored at the Scholarship and Awards Reception on Oct. 30 — the event highlights top educators and their impact on student learning.  NDSU
  • The campus community will join a Veterans Day ceremony hosted by NDSU’s Veterans Alliance Organization and the Bison Student Veterans club on Thursday, November 6 at 8:30 a.m. in Memorial Union’s Ballroom B—President David Cook will give remarks and keynote speaker Bryon Parman, a U.S. Navy veteran, will share his experience while cadets may lead a flag raising ceremony outside if weather permits.  NDSU
  • Registration for the 2026 Three Minute Thesis Competition will open on Nov. 3 and close on Dec. 1. NDSU graduate students enrolled for spring semester 2026 will submit a three-minute video presentation to compete for $250 preliminary awards and a live championship on Feb. 12 — the champion will advance to the regional competition.  NDSU
  • NDSU professors Mijia Yang and Uma Tida, along with doctoral student Biraj Saha, earned top research awards for their work at the College of Engineering—Yang received the Kessler Excellence in Research Award, Tida was named Early Career Researcher of the Year, and Saha was recognized as Graduate Student Researcher of the Year. They will be honored at the Scholarship and Awards Reception on Oct. 30.  NDSU
