COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Essentia Health and Moorhead officials announced a $1 million investment to fund the future Moorhead Public Library and Community Center and upgrade the River Corridor Trail into the Essentia Health River Walk—projects aimed at boosting community connection and wellness.  WDAY Radio

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • 15th Avenue South is closed after a water main break near a U-Haul facility caused major flooding that first responders reported at 4:45 a.m. on October 16—officials have not set a reopening time.  AM 1100 The Flag

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NDSU’s 10th annual Giving Day raised $2.9 million by exceeding its $1.25 million goal during the two-day online event held Oct. 14–15, with thousands of donors contributing from the NDSU community. The funds will support scholarships, research and student programs (including 1,890 minutes of giving) (marking a decade of growing support).  NDSU
  • More than 6,000 North Dakota high school students were enrolled in college courses for dual credit — earning both high school and college credit when they pass the course. Deputy Commissioner Lisa Johnson explained key guidelines, including a 2.0 GPA requirement, before the Legislature’s interim Education Committee while the Bank of North Dakota provided financial support.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Dakota Treasurer Tom Beadle said the state’s economy is doing well overall but agriculture and energy face challenges as oil rig counts dropped from 29 to 27 and rising costs hurt farmers. He added that while sales and corporate tax revenue fell last quarter, cash flow remains strong and a growing tech sector is expected to help balance these issues—promising a brighter outlook.  AM 1100 The Flag

HEALTH NEWS

  • North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread warned lawmakers that if federal tax credits are not renewed, tens of thousands of people may face insurance increases up to $3,735 in 2026 and as many as 10,000 might go uninsured while open enrollment will begin Nov. 1 — he urged Congress to act quickly to address rising health care costs.  KVRR
  • Essentia Health is expanding its mobile mammography program during October to bring 3-D breast cancer screenings to nearly 20 rural communities in central ND and western Wisconsin + the initiative will lower travel time and ease scheduling barriers by offering on-site care through local clinics or MyChart.  AM 1100 The Flag

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Fawcett is a nine-week-old kitten who came to Homeward Animal Shelter one week ago with a degloved lower jaw and underwent surgery to reattach his facial tissue—he now shows only slight puffiness. He is not eating as much yet and will continue to recover until he is ready for adoption.  KVRR
