- ➤ On October 11, a Guinness adjudicator confirmed that the Great Maze, built by Kathy Johnson's team and spanning 40,411 square feet, is now the largest temporary wood maze in the world— it remains open to visitors until the end of October. KVRR
- ➤ Organizers of the nationwide 'No Kings Day of Peaceful Action' protests will hold a demonstration on Saturday October 18 at Fargo City Hall from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; speakers from the North Dakota AFL—CIO and ACLU ND will address the crowd while similar rallies are planned in other parts of North Dakota and Minnesota. - ➤ The Spirit Lake Tribe marked the fifth anniversary of Savanna’s Act signed on October 10 by highlighting how the law has strengthened coordination among law enforcement partners and helped locate five missing tribal members. Tribal leaders stressed that every missing member is treated as an emergency, as they continue the search for answers for families, including those of Isaac Hunt and Jemini Posey. WDAY Radio
- ➤ The Red River Zoo held its annual Boo at the Zoo event this weekend where children in costumes trick-or-treated and enjoyed Halloween-themed activities — zoo staff explained that the event boosts winter attendance and announced two more dates on October 18 and October 25 for families to join in. - ➤ Last week, The Lab exhibition was held at Rheault Farm where Fargo Park District and Concordia Science Academy set up interactive animal displays and hands-on science activities for children 7 to 12 — organizers say the event was designed to make STEM learning fun and accessible. KVRR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lily Thoreson—a 20-year-old college student from Fargo-Moorhead—was diagnosed with Stage 3A ovarian cancer after she noticed mild abdominal pain and underwent surgery to remove her left ovary and fallopian tube. She is now using her experience to advocate for cancer awareness and will have an egg retrieval procedure before starting chemotherapy on Monday. WDAY Radio
