COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cass Clay Creamery and Hornbacher’s donated over 24,000 Giving Cow milk cartons to Great Plains Food Bank to support its back-to-school backpack program and help fight local hunger. The company has given 46,000 cartons this year as North Dakota faces food insecurity—77,000 people struggle, including 25,000 children.  KVRR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews from five fire departments fought two field fires in Traill County—one started by a combine in a bean field southwest of Hillsboro after 2 p.m. that burned about 60 acres while a call from Hillsboro Medical Center noted heavy smoke, and a second near Mayville before 5 p.m. that damaged a combine but spared the crops with no injuries reported.  AM 1100 The Flag

CULTURE NEWS

  • On October 1st, Hannah Montgomery’s tattoo studio in downtown Fargo was busy with clients asking for photorealistic Halloween designs. Montgomery uses history—mythology, folklore, and fables—to create lasting art on skin.  KVRR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MSUM deans took part in a chili competition during homecoming week in Moorhead—students and staff tasted seven unique recipes. Athletics director Chad Markuson won with his cream cheese chicken chili.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The North Dakota Public Service Commission has scheduled two public input sessions on October 13 at noon and 6 p.m. to discuss a potential Xcel Energy rate hike that would affect all retail electric customers statewide—sessions will be held in Bismarck, Grand Forks, Fargo, and Minot.  AM 1100 The Flag
  • Today in New Town, Governor Kelly Armstrong and Lieutenant Governor Michelle Strinden led a meeting with representatives from the MHA Nation — discussing challenges, opportunities and shared priorities in state-tribal relations. They toured tribal facilities and added plans for more visits to build stronger government partnerships.  WDAY Radio

  • North Dakota State redshirt freshman linebacker Peder Haugo talked with Big Game James McCarty—saying he adjusted to the fast play of college football and made key improvements over the past year—and shared details about his progress.  WDAY Radio
  • North Dakota State running back Barika Kpeenu had a good homecoming game on October 1—he scored two touchdowns—and later talked with Big Game James McCarty about how his team was working well together as MVFC play began.  AM 1100 The Flag
