- ➤ Freedom Resource Center hosted its first resource fair at Veterans Memorial Arena in West Fargo, where over fifty booths from North Dakota and Minnesota offered disability services and job opportunities—Katelyn Vilmo said the event aimed to unite community services to help people with disabilities become more independent. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nonprofits serving the homeless received $5 million from state and federal grants to support emergency shelters, transitional housing, and rent and utility assistance, though advocates say the funding does not meet the high need. The grants, including a $2 million award to Community Action Partnership of North Dakota and $125,000 to the Abused Adult Resource Center, were announced in late July — but critics say more help is needed for rising homelessness—. - ➤ Former Lieutenant Governor Brent Sanford has been named North Dakota University System commissioner by the State Board of Higher Education and will enhance campus collaboration—addressing workforce challenges. The board meeting on Sept. 23 in Minot changed the title from chancellor to commissioner and also named Dr. Carmen Simone as permanent president at Lake Region State College. AM 1100 The Flag
- ➤ City Hall was crowded as the public commented on the planned move of the Downtown Engagement Center, which serves nearly 90 people a day and is less than a block from City Hall—residents expressed safety and neighborhood concerns over the relocation. Officials said the current space is inadequate and the new location will better support services, though no timeline has been set. KVRR
