CRIME NEWS

  • On September 5, after a standoff, police received a call at 10:26 a.m. reporting that Derrick St. Claire, under the influence and armed with a knife and hammer, entered a Fargo home, stabbed walls, hit a staircase, and tried to set carpet on fire—Red River SWAT arrived around 2:40 p.m. and detained him while charging him with burglary using a weapon.  WDAY Radio
  • Fargo Police arrested a juvenile after a parent reported a Snapchat video in which the youth displayed an AR-style BB gun and threatened to bring it to school—officers took the juvenile into custody and secured the weapon.  KVRR
  • On September 5, police responded to a call reporting that Derrick St. Claire—allegedly under the influence and armed with a knife and hammer—broke into a home, damaged property, and attacked residents before he was detained at 2:40 p.m. and charged with burglary with a firearm, destructive device or other weapon.  AM 1100 The Flag

  • The Rides with Jay Thomas team was nominated for an Upper Midwest Emmy Award — its episode Rendir Homenaje was honored in the Entertainment Long Form category on September 8.  WDAY Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A North Dakota interim legislative committee chose Nucleon Energy (a Canadian company) to study the best ways to bring small modular nuclear power plants to the state by finding sites, checking public support, and planning for federal licensing. The 12-month study, costing an estimated $275,000 under House Bill 1025, was selected after reviewing proposals from nine firms.  KVRR
