- ➤ The Golden Drive Homeless Kids sock drive is underway in the metro as volunteers and Dakota High students help collect 36,906 new socks through October 3—Sue Baron said the socks will be organized and given to homeless kids at local schools and shelters, with collections also accepted at Flag Family Studios on Thunder Road South. - ➤ Visit Fargo-Moorhead has named Shirley Hughes as its new CEO; she will join on September 8 and succeed Charley Johnson, who is set to retire later this month after more than 13 years of leadership. Hughes began her career with the organization in 1991 and has held leadership roles at several companies, marking her appointment as a significant change for the group. WDAY Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A West Fargo man, Christopher Lee Pankowski, 42, was arrested after a high-speed chase on Interstate 29 on Sept. 2 that began near the Horace exit and ended when he fled on foot from an apartment complex on University Drive in Fargo—he now faces multiple charges including DUI-Drugs and fleeing a peace officer. - ➤ Fargo authorities charged Carlos Guzman-Pineda— a 27-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador— after he violently assaulted Border Patrol agents during a stop on August 25; he faces up to eight years in prison and $25,000 in fines while the FBI and U.S. Border Patrol investigate. WDAY Radio

- ➤ West Fargo received $11.2 million in state loans to upgrade water, sewer, and stormwater systems. The Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds—administered by the Department of Environmental Quality and Public Finance Authority—will renovate public works facilities. WDAY Radio
