CULTURE NEWS

  • Concordia College in Moorhead has released its musical concerts schedule for the first semester of the 2025-2026 academic year. Most events are free and open to the public—except the Concordia Christmas Concert, PRISM Concert and Homecoming Concert—with dates from Sept. through Dec. and tickets available online.  WDAY Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Incoming NDSU students will move into residence halls today and join Welcome Week, which runs until Sept. 7. The events include group meetings, Saturday Night Live, a walk-through and more on campus and downtown Fargo—helping new students meet neighbors and adjust to campus life.  NDSU
  • Last spring, West Fargo Public Schools wrote off over $100,000 in meal debt from a year in which they served more than one million lunches, as state law now requires that every student receives a free meal regardless of their account balance (lawmakers have yet to secure additional funding for broader free meal coverage).  KVRR
  • Governor Armstrong says the new cell phone ban in schools will help improve students' physical, emotional and mental health as districts enforce strict bell-to-bell rules. West Fargo Public Schools started classes recently while Fargo Public Schools will begin on August 27th.  WDAY Radio
  • Governor Kelly Armstrong said the new ban—keeping cell phones out of school—will help students be healthier and focus better, and Fargo Public Schools will start classes on August 27th.  AM 1100 The Flag

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fargo’s Communications Department lost four leaders, including Chief Communications Officer Gregg Schildberger and Deputy Chief Katie Ettish, effective Aug. 17 after an investigation found repeated claims of poor management and a hostile work environment—16 employees have left since 2018. The probe, which interviewed 19 people between June 26 and July 14, revealed that intense supervision and quick turnovers reflect deep issues in leadership—city officials have not yet explained the reasons behind the investigation.  AM 1100 The Flag

  • The Flag will broadcast live local sports events on air and online with a schedule featuring college and high school football games starting August 28 through November 15.
