COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sparklight awarded a $5,000 check to West Fargo Eats in West Fargo to help fight hunger in the community — the grant came when supplies were low and the group partnered with local nonprofits to offer a drive-thru shopping experience. The funds will support food aid efforts for those in need.  KVRR

CRIME NEWS

  • Clay County Sheriff Empting said two suspects were arrested after a standoff at a Moorhead home on Monday—42-year-old Christopher Ringsrud-Knowels from Arvilla faces charges of felony burglary, firearm possession, and fleeing while 30-year-old Alexandria Lang from Fargo is charged with obstruction and aiding an offender, and both are held in Clay County Correctional Facility.  KVRR
  • A 42-year-old man from Arville, Christopher Ringsrud-Knowles, fled a traffic stop and barricaded himself in a Moorhead home until officers forced him out, and he was linked to a charge for having a homemade explosive device in his car last month—his 30-year-old passenger Alexandria Lang was also arrested after throwing a backpack during the chase.  AM 1100 The Flag
  • Law enforcement in Moorhead arrested 42 year old Christopher Ringsrud Knowles after he reportedly fled a traffic stop and barricaded himself in a home on Monday, and his 30 year old passenger Alexandria Lang was taken into custody after throwing a backpack during the chase—he had been charged in June with possessing a homemade explosive device in his vehicle.  WDAY Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Movies in the Park at Rheault Farm will show free family-friendly films on July 17th and July 24th starting at dusk. The event features PG movies 'Daddy Daycare' and 'Moana 2' and welcomes visitors to bring their own chairs, blankets, snacks and beverages (2902 25th Street South in Fargo) while alcohol is not allowed.  KVRR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Dakota State University professor Sulaymon Eshkabilov received a NSF CAREER award for $650,000 over five years to study honey bee signals and develop smart monitoring systems for hives—an effort that supports the state’s key honey production industry.  NDSU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers from NDSU and partners including USDA, the University of Wyoming, and New Mexico State studied how bees survive harsh winter conditions to improve crop pollination and received NSF funding to build labs and sequence the blue orchard bee genome. The new data will guide future management of pollinators—helping North Dakota farmers boost yields.  NDSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The West Fargo Police Department added a new K-9 unit member—Q, a two-year-old German Shepherd from Germany assigned to Officer Walker Koropatnicki—expanding the team to seven dog-handler pairs. The patrol division used these teams nearly 300 times in 2024 to support their operations.  WDAY Radio
