  • Fargo remembered fallen officer Jake Wallin two years after he was killed on July 14, 2023 when a gunman opened fire on officers responding to a traffic collision and a memorial service was held with his family and colleagues — marking his sacrifice.  WDAY Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • The MN BCA identified Becker County Sheriff’s Department’s Lt. Luke Sweere and Detroit Lakes Officer Philip Vaughn as the officers who exchanged fire with 36-year-old Todd Burris (from Bemidji) after he drove away from a Detroit Lakes traffic stop and pulled into a rest stop off HWY 10 near Frazee on July 9 during a domestic violence investigation, and Burris was hit in both legs and taken to a hospital in Fargo while neither officer was injured and both were placed on leave.  AM 1100 The Flag
  • A heavy police presence secured a perimeter around a field near the water tower at the intersection of 28th Street South and 40th Avenue South in Moorhead on July 14th—officers used a K9 unit and a drone to monitor the scene during a reported police standoff and an unconfirmed high-speed chase.  WDAY Radio

  • Conner Buchholz, a 2022 NDSU business graduate who grew up on his family’s ranch, now serves as co-owner and board member of North American Bison — the largest USDA-certified bison processing plant in the state—and operates Skull Creek Ranch near Rhame.   • Julie Ellingson from the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association said the beef industry is strong with record-high prices, strong demand, and key tax provisions from the recent reconciliation bill that support family farms + ranchers remain cautious as unpredictable weather and a potential screwworm threat add risk.   • The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is set to add up to 300 beds across four mini prisons to ease overcrowding after recent years of excess inmates—temporary housing at Missouri River Correctional Center will open next summer or fall as regional jail contracts are finalized.  KVRR
