Luke Sweere and Detroit Lakes Officer Philip Vaughn as the officers who exchanged fire with 36-year-old Todd Burris (from Bemidji) after he drove away from a Detroit Lakes traffic stop and pulled into a rest stop off HWY 10 near Frazee on July 9 during a domestic violence investigation, and Burris was hit in both legs and taken to a hospital in Fargo while neither officer was injured and both were placed on leave.
