- ➤ Cherries for Charity is available at all eight Hornbacher’s stores tonight and through next Tuesday; 25 cents per pound of Washington Bing cherries sold will benefit the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center and the YWCA of Cass Clay. Now in its 43rd year — having raised over half a million dollars — the fundraiser supports survivors of sexual and domestic violence and meets growing community needs. KVRR
- ➤ Folkways began painting a new mural downtown on Monday, July 8 at the intersection of 5th Street North and 2nd Avenue North using a grant from AARP—lead artist Lesleyanne Buegel said the artwork is meant to boost vibrancy and pedestrian safety in the historic area. - ➤ Officers responded to a domestic assault call on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on the 20000 block of Becker County Highway 21, and after the suspect fled from Detroit Lakes to a rest stop in Frazee—officers engaged and shot the suspect, who was then transported to hospitals in Detroit Lakes and Fargo while the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigates the case. - ➤ Larry Desjarlais was charged with felony arson after he reportedly admitted starting a June 7 house fire in Fargo using a torch he also uses for meth, which caused $69,000 in damage and forced tenants to evacuate—he was taken to Cass County jail after receiving emergency care. AM 1100 The Flag
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ From May 1-June 2, law enforcement agencies across North Dakota issued 4,061 citations during the Click It or Ticket campaign. Vision Zero said the tickets included 2,848 for not wearing seat belts, 38 for child restraint, 418 for speeding, and additional stops led to 311 other citations, 17 warrants, and five arrests for driving under the influence. - ➤ North Dakota farmers and ranchers can apply for the Grain Storage and Facility Rebuilder Program to repair or replace damaged storage, barns, machine sheds, and pivot irrigation systems with a loan up to $150,000 through the Bank of North Dakota — no collateral is needed for temporary storage. The program, started after the June 20 storms, will help farmers while Governor Kelly Armstrong said it may serve as a bridge to federal disaster aid — applications are due by December 31. WDAY Radio
