CRIME NEWS

  • A Fargo man named Timothy Busche was arrested after he allegedly pulled a gun on a couple near 45th Street and 19th Avenue North just after midnight Sunday morning—police charged him with three felonies for terrorizing, possession of meth with a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm after finding a handgun, holster, and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.  KVRR
  • A Fargo man has been arrested on felony stalking charges after police discovered a tracking device hidden in a woman’s car—he admitted placing it on May 27 and May 28, leading to a violation of a protection order when the victim found the device on June 2.  AM 1100 The Flag
  • A Stanley couple is facing Felony AA murder, child abuse, and domestic violence charges after a 3-year-old foster girl with autism died from blunt force trauma on March 19 when video footage showed Jamie Johnson repeatedly punching and slapping the child and Raymond Johnson kicking her after she bit Jamie’s finger—if convicted, they could face life in prison.  KVRR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fargo college aid advisors say the FAFSA form now includes only 36 questions—making it simpler than last year's version—to help students complete the application and avoid missing aid. CollegeSmart's Ryan Keel offered advice on the Morning Show, and applicants must submit the form by midnight June 30.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State leaders said that the Ethics Commission does not have the power to punish officials for ethics violations — legislators cut its budget and turned down a bill to give it more power during the last session. The commission has more pending complaints than before, and officials from the governor’s and attorney general’s offices said only the Legislature can set penalties.  KVRR
  • Fargo City Commission approved new fire chief Gary Lorenz—former chief of Grand Forks Fire Department—to succeed Steve Dirksen after a full-day finalist review on May 28; he will be formally installed at a July meeting once he meets all pre-employment requirements.  WDAY Radio
