GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak said she was disappointed with Homeland Security after the department named seven North Dakota counties 'sanctuary jurisdictions' and pulled the report from its website, questioning the criteria used for the label. Local sheriffs said the counties have cooperated with federal law enforcement agencies (Billings, Golden Valley, Grant, Morton, Ramsey, Sioux, and Slope) and upheld strict state laws.  AM 1100 The Flag
  • U.S. Rep. Julie Fedorchak will host an online forum at 7 p.m. CDT on June 10 to discuss the budget bill and Medicaid changes (voters must sign up by noon on her website).  KVRR
  • Tribal leaders from Turtle Mountain and Spirit Lake and three tribal citizens asked the full 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear a ruling that found private citizens cannot use Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act to challenge a 2021 redistricting plan. They argue the decision undermines fair voting practices that led to historic Native representation and could force changes in district lines for state lawmakers.  KVRR
  • The West Fargo Police and Fire Departments held active shooter training at Horace High School on Monday and are finishing the exercise today from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with officers carrying guns and patrolling outside while no live rounds are used—residents may hear loud noises and see emergency vehicles around the school.  AM 1100 The Flag
  • Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak said she is disappointed with Homeland Security for naming seven counties sanctuary jurisdictions, arguing the label is untrue.
