EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four NDSU communication students won first place in a contest for their public relations and social media campaign during the NDPC conference on May 9— their project was developed in their COMM 377 class. NDSU
- ➤ NDSU engineering seniors worked with Marvin to fix a slow camera system used on the assembly line & speed up quality control by replacing the Raspberry Pi with an IP camera. The team will soon hand off their code, documentation and hardware for use at Marvin’s new Kansas facility across three assembly lines. NDSU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Fargo City Commission approved the Public Safety Sales Tax plan by a vote of 4-1—Michelle Turnberg opposed it, saying core services should be fully budgeted. The tax began on April 1 and will end on March 31, 2045, with 80% of the funds used for fire, police, and equipment and 20% for other needs—helping to fund essential services. AM 1100 The Flag
- ➤ The City of Fargo is building Lake Fargo, a 100 gallon stormwater retention pond along 52nd Avenue near 47th Street South to manage stormwater — officials say the project may later support local recreation. City engineers will complete design plans soon — the project is set to improve water management in the area. AM 1100 The Flag
- ➤ The North Dakota Department of Transportation said there were only 89 deadly crashes last year, the fewest in 24 years—30 of those crashes involved people not wearing seat belts. Data also shows a gradual decline in alcohol and speed related deaths compared to previous years. AM 1100 The Flag
