COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NRG Adventure Park will open on Friday at 5100 14th Ave S as a new indoor playground that offers arcade games, a rope course, basketball court, and trampolines for kids (and hosts next-level birthday parties). General Manager Nancy Lin said the park has been in the works for months.  KVRR
  • KFGO radio director Paul Jurgens will retire effective tomorrow (May 29) after a long career that began in 1983 and led him to earn top awards; he may return part-time as his peers remember his leadership at The Mighty 790.  KVRR
  • This weekend, the Fargo Moorhead Kennel Club All Breed show will feature about 120 dogs (including new American Kennel Club breeds) to help visitors learn about the right pet for their lifestyle.  KVRR
  • I-29 near the I-94 underpass has buckled from extreme heat, and DOT crews along with law enforcement have been working since last night; drivers are advised to slow down and follow directions as traffic continues to be affected.  KVRR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • United Way in West Fargo has begun its annual school supply drive, collecting backpacks, pencils and notebooks to support seven thousand students returning this fall. Local school principals noted the drive's importance and encouraged donations via the online wish list.  KVRR
  • The University of North Dakota is planning to build a refining facility at the Falkirk coal mine near Underwood to extract critical minerals for electronics if it wins a $50 million U.S. Department of Energy grant. Design and construction are set to take 18-24 months, with operations expected by 2029.  KVRR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The number of people visiting emergency rooms for tick bites has risen since summer began, according to a CDC report. Physician Assistant Megan Hahn (at Essentia Walk-in Clinic) said patients are advised to remove ticks with tweezers to lower the risk of Lyme disease.  KVRR
