  • Red River Children’s Advocacy Center hosted its 19th annual spring conference today in Fargo where former Texas detective Michael Johnson (now a child abuse prevention consultant) discussed safeguarding children and law enforcement intervention, building on nearly 500 forensic interviews conducted last year.  KVRR
  • Local rib expert, Robert Byrd—known as the Ribman—serves his famous smoked ribs outside of Used-a-Bit Sales and Pawn on Main Avenue throughout the summer. Loyal customers praise his family tradition that has shaped his 20-year presence in the community.  KVRR
  • On May 13, the 4th annual Swing Training event kicked off Roger Maris All-Star Week at Suite Shots in Fargo-Moorhead, attracting teams and Chad Greenway to support Sanford’s cancer care programs — the fundraiser will include golf tournament on June 18 during a weeklong series from June 15 to 19.  KVRR

  • Brenda and Matt McCasson of Velva Fresh Foods are using creative ideas like in-store frozen pizzas & Crock-Pot meal deals to draw customers and compete with larger stores. They presented these efforts and discussed rural grocery challenges at a three-day summit in Fargo on May 6.  KVRR

  • Fargo man (Dean Aamodt) was chosen to compete on today's episode of Fox's game show The Floor after submitting his audition reel last year. He flew to Ireland to record the show and later discussed his experience on a local morning program.  KVRR

  • The Fargo Education Association endorsed five candidates for the school board after reviewing candidate research, questionnaires, and interviews. The slate includes Melissa Burkland, Katie Christensen Mineer, Greg Clark, Jolene Garty, and Robin Nelson, with the election set for June 9.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials and local business owners met on May 13 to discuss a proposed ban on flavored nicotine products that some fear may cut tax revenue and hurt jobs, while others stress youth protection + public safety. The FMWF Chamber said it will work on an ordinance compromise.  KVRR
