CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Fargo police arrested Kimberly Aulakh and Larry Wellman, Junior and cited Jamie Morin while enforcing the city’s camping ban—finding them at a camp on the 900 block of Oak Street North near Mickelson Park on Thursday. WDAY Radio
- ➤ Fargo Police Department reports that 82-year-old Leroy Gordon Sonnenberg has registered a new address at 123 15th St. N—he was previously convicted in 1968 in Iowa for lascivious acts with children and in 2008 in North Dakota for exploitation of minors. KVRR
- ➤ Fargo Police arrested two individuals while citing another during a camping ban enforcement on the 900 block of Oak Street North—40-year-old Kimberly Aulakh was taken into custody for unpaid fines and drug paraphernalia, 41-year-old Larry Wellman, Junior was arrested for failing community service, and 49-year-old Jamie Morin received a citation. - ➤ Governor Kelly Armstrong signed House Bill 1143 that awards $5 million from the Agriculture Department for the new statewide food distribution center at Great Plains Food Bank — private donors will match the funds to expand food access, and construction is expected to begin in 2027. - ➤ State Rep. Steve Swiontek (R-Fargo) said he is worried the new term limit law, approved by voters in 2022 and capping service to (8 years), will lead to a loss of institutional knowledge as lawmakers may depend more on government agencies, and a recent effort to reverse the measure failed. - ➤ House Majority Leader Mike Lefor said a conference committee agreed on a tax relief and reform bill that provides a $1,600 primary residence tax credit and limits local property tax growth to 3%—a move finalized just days before the legislative session ended. Lefor expects Governor Kelly Armstrong will sign the bill—removing plans for homeowners to pay a share of their tax liability. WDAY Radio
- ➤ The House passed House Bill 1298 raising the interstate speed limit to 80 mph and updating speeding fines—after a delayed vote—and the Senate approved it, sending the bill to the governor with changes effective August 1 if signed. KVRR
