ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Late Thursday night, an off-duty deputy sheriff – 41-year-old Christopher Lee – from Twin Valley was struck by a vehicle east of Twin Valley while trying to help an injured dog and was transported to Fargo for treatment as the Minnesota State Patrol investigates.  WDAY Radio
  • Fargo Police are investigating a crash on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of 12th Avenue North and 17th Street North—an eastbound vehicle struck a southbound bicyclist who entered the intersection unsafely, and the adult man sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries while being treated at a local hospital with no citations issued at the scene.  WDAY Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The North Dakota Senate approved a bill on April 17 that creates Education Savings Accounts for private school students — offering vouchers that range from about $1,000 to $4,000 based on household income while a conference committee finalizes key details for use in the 2026-27 school year.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kelly Armstrong signed two bills that classify emergency dispatchers as first responders and let them join public safety retirement plans—benefits that will start on August 1.  WDAY Radio
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed Senate Bill 2137—this law stops wildlife managers from banning bait use in deer hunting on private property—and the bill, sponsored by Sen. Keith Boehm, was supported by many hunters even as some officials expressed concerns over managing chronic wasting disease.  KVRR
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed two bills last week—one that requires a capital letter disclaimer on political ads made partly with AI and one that makes it a crime to knowingly spread false details in election ads—that will change rules for political communications; both laws start on Aug. 1.  KVRR
