- ➤ On Saturday, Apr. 18 at 9:45 a.m. the City of Moorhead will open The Loop at the intersection of 5th St and Center Ave (featuring a library, indoor walk, children’s play area, and co-working spaces); the event will include a ribbon cutting plus crafts, a photoshoot and workshop previews. KVRR
- ➤ A GoFundMe was launched to help cover travel and surgery expenses for retired Fargo Police K9 Blue, who served from August 2017 to December 2025 and was diagnosed with bilateral perineal hernias and an enlarged prostate. The fundraiser aims to support his treatment and honor his service. KVRR
- ➤ Red River Zoo President Sally Mulvena will step down on May 29 after serving since 2012. She has accepted a new role in Florida to reunite with her husband and build on the zoo's financial strength, community ties, and guest experience. KVRR

- ➤ Photographer Josh Madson of Community Collage is expanding his project to turn black-and-white portraits into murals that boost local connectedness; he will host pop-up portrait events starting tomorrow at MSUM (Moorhead) and later in Fargo. KVRR

- ➤ Emily Mikhail, an NDSU mechanical engineering student, has been named a Phi Kappa Phi Student Lectureship Award recipient and will deliver a lecture titled 'Seeing Inside a Hybrid Rocket.' - ➤ The NDSU Foundation has rebranded its alumni magazine Herd to share stories of tradition and progress. The twice yearly edition is available online and features the legacy of home economics, the 100th anniversary of Little International, and research in coatings at NDSU. NDSU
- ➤ Concordia College Moorhead hosts the seventeenth annual URSCA Symposium (Celebration of Student Scholars) today to showcase student research and creative projects across majors; classes are cancelled to let students share original work and enjoy awards on campus. KVRR
- ➤ Aditya Goyal, an NDSU doctoral student, was accepted into Harvard Business School’s Foundry Bootcamp and will join the four‐week virtual program to turn his work on calcium peroxide nanoparticles — used for phosphate removal — into a fundable venture. NDSU
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ NDWRRI interim director Trung Le said the institute is expanding research on water use, PFAS contamination, and irrigation methods to support our state’s key industries. The work, including studies on the Missouri River basin (a vital water source), will help shape local water management for the next decade. NDSU

- ➤ The Public Service Commission approved a $110 million power project to build a substation near the Applied Digital data center site east of I-29 — linking it with a 345-kilowatt powerline at no cost to rate-payers.
