- ➤ Jessica Allen, the mother of 19-year-old Lacey Higdem who died at Rolette County Jail in June 2020, was awarded a court judgment of $2 million against the county and two former correctional officers—U.S. District Court Judge Peter Welte approved the ruling based on documents showing Higdem suffered worsening effects from methamphetamine use. - ➤ Spirit Lake Nation has only four officers patrolling 400 square miles of the reservation even though federal guidelines allow for 17 officers due to hiring challenges and budget constraints—tribe officials say they are partnering with the Bureau of Indian Affairs to streamline recruitment. - ➤ Bismarck — The Senate voted 40 to 6 to block a House bill from Fargo Rep Mary Schneider that would have prevented felons from claiming self-defense with a gun. Lawmakers who opposed the change said it would be un-American, while supporters stated it only targeted unlawful gun use. WDAY Radio
- ➤ Construction on busy 13th Avenue South began April 3 and is expected to last 10 days—city crews shifted the eastbound lane into the center turn lane between 16 1/2 and 17th Streets South.
