CRIME NEWS

  • Court documents show that on March 12th at 8:30 p.m. a hit-and-run in downtown Fargo killed 61-year-old Bernd Scholz while he rode his bicycle, and charges were filed on April 1st against 42-year-old Jeremey Jorgenson—who told authorities he thought he hit a pothole—after witnesses reported his vehicle reversed onto the cyclist.  AM 1100 The Flag

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NDSU student Joanna Daniella Fajardo was named grand champion at the 77th Ag Tech Expo on Feb 15 for her project Bugging Out: IoT for Pest Detection—she is a sophomore studying precision agriculture and artificial intelligence who used smart devices to help farmers spot pests. Her win at the expo hosted by the agricultural and biosystems engineering department highlights her skills in merging technology with farming.  NDSU
  • Robert Zoellick, former president of the World Bank, will speak at NDSU on April 8 as part of the Menard Family Distinguished Speaker Series sponsored by the Sheila and Robert Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth. His talk 'America in the World: U.S. Diplomacy and Foreign Policy' starts at 4 p.m. in the Oceti Sakowin Ballroom—attendees can join a Q&A session and a reception at 5:30 p.m. where the first 100 guests will receive a complimentary copy of his book.  NDSU
  • Bishops from the Catholic dioceses of Bismarck and Fargo signed a joint letter Sunday urging parishioners to call legislators about Senate Bill 2400 and House Bill 1540, which would use tax dollars for education savings accounts for private school tuition—bills set for committee review on Tuesday. The letter stated that parents are the primary educators and was read from church pulpits statewide—highlighting the church’s support for parental choice in education.  KVRR

  • City inspector Shawn Ouradnik said the City of Fargo declared University Drive Manor dangerous after finding unsafe conditions in its 90-unit, eight-floor building just off University Drive on 2nd Ave. N and ordered residents to leave by next Monday—its owner must complete repairs and engineering work to fix structural issues.  KVRR
