COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Registration is open now for the biannual Yard and Garden Palooza at Shanley High School on April 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; experts including nationally renowned Charlie Nardozzi and NDSU Master Gardener Don Kinzler will lead breakout sessions on backyard beekeeping, flower design, and lawn care.  KVRR
  • Great Plains Food Bank and Corwin Automotive Group launch their annual Stock the Shelves campaign to support local food pantries, shelters, and meal sites; donations can be made online and at select Fargo and Moorhead locations until May 3, with matched contributions up to $65,000 toward a $200,000 goal.  KVRR
  • Mayor Tim Mahoney awarded Aubrie Myrmoe and Laila Wangen as winners of the Mayor for a Day essay contest—where the young contestants outlined plans to reduce vaping, host civic events, and beautify the city—before touring city hall and receiving plaques with the entire commission.  KVRR
  • Cleanup week 2026 is set for May 4-8 and May 11-15 in Fargo (check local city sites for updates), May 4-7 in West Fargo, and the first two full weeks in May in Moorhead (hazardous waste, grass clippings, and compost materials are not collected).  KVRR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The NDSU Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business is hosting the Possibility Showcase on Tuesday, April 14 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Oceti Sakowin Ballroom at Memorial Union, where guests can network, view student startup exhibits and hear Dieumerci Christel's keynote address.  NDSU
  • The North Dakota Board of Higher Education named Marshall Stewart as the 16th president of NDSU today. Stewart, currently executive vice president for external engagement at Kansas State (he beat two other finalists), will replace interim president Rick Berg.  KVRR
  • Marshall Stewart, formerly executive vice president at Kansas State University (where he led external engagement), has been named NDSU’s 16th president by the state board and will take office on May 28. He plans to boost enrollment, lower student debt and strengthen community ties.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials have ordered the dangerous property at 115 6th Avenue North, a 1900 house with broken windows and foundation cracks, to be torn down by May 29 if no repairs are made (the widow has no plans to fix it) after repeated squatters were cleared.  KVRR
