COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Deanna Dahlsad invites local residents to join a Valentine’s card swap at Lunatique Boutique in downtown this Saturday, Feb. 14 — extra cards will be donated to Micah’s Mission for the homeless. Bring both handmade and store-bought cards to help foster community connection.  KVRR
  • Yesterday, veterans gathered at West Acres Mall parking lot to raise funds for Fisher House Freeze Out but canceled a flag raising because heavy winds made it unsafe (they offered cookies and coffee), with donations helping reach an $8 million goal for a planned 13,000 sqft facility with 16 suites.  KVRR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fargo Public School Board announced plans this week to save over $5 million for next school year by cutting staffing positions and reducing expenses — the board will finalize the 2026‑2027 budget by June.  KVRR
  • North Dakota State University and RAND launched a research partnership to study workforce trends, rural healthcare, agricultural innovation, and economic sustainability in the region—initial findings will be released later this year to inform local policy.  NDSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Utility regulators approved a compromise rate increase for Xcel Energy customers in July 2024 that raised overall costs by 10.37% and residential rates by 12.92%, shielding rate-payers from funding Minnesota renewable projects — resulting in an average monthly increase of about $11.94.  KVRR
  • Moorhead City Council is set to discuss a new housing shelter for young adults (at 502 and 512 3rd Ave S) on Monday, Feb. 10. The proposed 25-unit space is recommended by Youthworks to serve homeless and housing-challenged youths aged 18 to 24.  KVRR
